Filthy Rags?

By Gregory John Wilson

I was reading in the prophets how their righteousness was like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), and it HIT me that yes, in that situation, their righteousness was pretty lame!! But that doesn't mean our righteousness is ALWAYS like filthy rags.. For example, note another place in scripture where Yah say EVEN IF Moses and Samuel stood before Him, He would not be favorable (Jer. 15:1) - as in, recognizing that they were exceedingly righteous. And Ezekiel 14:14 says that Noah, Daniel, and Job could save themselves by their own righteousness, but only themselves.. not the rest.

Are we perfect on our own? Do we need to be perfected in Messiah? Yes. But let's not just say any of our efforts to be righteous are filthy rags. The prophets do not read so.
