Seek & You Will Find - Examining The Pursuit Of Truth

How do we know that we know the truth? This question plagued minister Greg Wilson for a good length of time during his college years. It was nothing short of a supernatural experience with Father God on March 30th, 2011 that assuaged the questions and propelled Greg into a deeper walk with God. Jesus in the Bible puts a promise out for us - "Seek and we WILL find". So come join Greg as he takes a step back and looks at evidence - including personal testimony and bible prophecy - that leads us to reach out and connect with a REAL personal God who has given us true scriptures which can help us in tasting the immeasurable gift of a personal relationship with Him that will last past the pains of death and into eternal bliss.

I. Introduction

  1. Growing up, & College Years - March 30th tell later..
  2. What qualifies me to talk to you? - Personal experience with God - March 30th - other answered prayer, and having been a careful student of the Scriptures.

II. Pursuit of Truth

  1. Where are you?
    1. Have you sought after the purpose and meaning of life - truth? Or just accepted what you grew up with, or what culture says?
  2. In order to have a fulfilling life with meaning, we need to know that we have a purpose based on what is true. Or should I say WHO is true.
  3. For when we look at the world there is obvious handiwork of a creator - all kinds of animals, trees, mountains, the sun moon and stars - inviting us to reach out to this great and powerful creator.
  4. So how do we learn more about this creator? Well simple - we know He is living and intelligent, and surely knows everything that happens in His creation - so.. we TALK to Him! We ask Him questions, ask Him to guide us and reveal Himself to us!
    1. Many times in my life, things have happened that cannot just be coincidence - a song I start singing randomly that has a message pertinent to some issue I was facing. Or my Mom calling me on various occasions right when I needed it. Things like that. Also, there can be even more direct revelations of the Creator via experiences like my March 30th experience - feeling any overwhelming sense of His presence, or even having visions or dreams of Him or His Jewish son, Yeshua (Jesus)!

    2. But to really understand the grand scheme of things, we kind of need to know the big story too! And... ancient holy writings which have been put together and become the most popular book in the world deserve our attention… Yes, I am speaking of what we know as the Bible.
  5. But why should we trust the Bible? If we want to examine everything and see if it is true, we must consider why to trust the Bible as well.
    1. Archeology - real places
    2. Meticulous preservation - Jewish scribes would count every single letter of the Torah - first five books of Bible. - we are talking about a people that have a deep reverence for God and His commands…
    3. One of most important evidence - fulfilled prophecy - in New Testament records of the life of Jesus, there are many quotations of old testament verses being fulfilled.
      1. Most notably I think - Isaiah 53 - a suffering servant who would suffer for the sins of the people - written way before Jesus, but describing exactly what He did when He gave His life. (Read Isa. 53 and elaborate)
      2. There are other prophecies as well - such as one of a person from EVERLASTING born in Bethlehem - who could that be? Or a king riding in Jerusalem on a donkey! These things were spoken of before Christ, but fulfilled in Him.
  6. So.. a combination of 1. seeking the Creator to reveal Himself to you personally and 2. prayerfully studying the time-honored, prophecy-proven scriptures, new and old, will put you on a path to hopefully encountering the living God and His plan in your life!

III. Basic message of Bible

  1. With the evidence for trusting the Bible given, let's look at the basic message of the Bible!
  2. And that is, we have sinned - disobeyed God's perfect standard, which He revealed in His law, but that through repentance and faith we can come back to Father God and be made pure again and in right relationship with Him, receiving His love and care and seeking to walk righteously, in accordance with His commands, new and old, as they apply to us, unto a resurrection of eternal life, to have blissful adventures with our Creator forever!

So I invite you, wherever you are on your journey, to embrace the pursuit of Truth, whether you already know much truth or only a little, and embark or continue on a journey towards the ultimate treasure and prize - a relationship with your all-powerful creator and Father, in whose hand is every delight you could desire.
